Shivani Agarwal is an Assistant Professor and Ramanujan Fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science, where she leads the Machine Learning and Learning Theory Group and co-directs the Indo-US Joint Center for Advanced Research in Machine Learning, Game Theory and Optimization. She received her bachelors degrees in mathematics and computer science at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi and as a Nehru scholar at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, respectively, and her PhD in computer science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She was a postdoctoral lecturer at MIT before starting her faculty career. She is currently an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences and of the International Center for Theoretical Sciences. Her research interests include machine learning and learning theory, in particular the study of ranking and other complex learning problems, as well as applications of machine learning methods, particularly in the life sciences. More broadly, she is excited by research at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and statistics, and its applications in scientific discovery.
